Soil mates : Pennisetum

From The Times, October 13, 2007

Autumn is the best time by far to showcase the feathery beauty of pennisetum

In high summer, Pennisetum are undistinguished plants, but in autumn the soft squirrel-tail flowers appear.

Christened with dew or simply backlit by the sun, the downy dancing flowers look so warm and snug that they make me lust after a cold snap so I can reach for my fleece-lined boots.
